Ellesborough Golf Club is an 18-hole downland course situated in Buckinghamshire near Aylesbury, approximately an hour from London. Founded in 1906, the course was originally designed by Willie Park Jnr, with the current layout refined by H.S. Colt in 1924 and expanded by James Braid in 1933.
Built on chalk foundations within the Chiltern Escarpment, the course benefits from excellent drainage in winter and drought resistance in summer. The greens are renowned for being fast and true yet challenging to read. The course offers varied hole designs with magnificent panoramic views across the Vale of Aylesbury and surrounding countryside. Notable features include proximity to Coombe Hill monument.
The club enjoys significant historical prestige, with honorary membership extended to the Prime Minister due to its association with Chequers. Distinguished visitors and Open Championship winners have played here, including Henry Cotton, Greg Norman, and Bill Clinton. The course presents a fair test of all golfing skills with consistent playing conditions year-round.
