Elk River Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course measuring 6,829 yards designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1984. It was Jack Nicklaus's first signature course design in North Carolina, located in Banner Elk in the Blue Ridge Mountains with altitudes ranging from 3,450 to 4,650 feet. The course presents two distinct nine-hole experiences—the front nine features an open, meadow-like setting with tall native grasses, while the back nine transitions to traditional tree-lined mountain design with elevated tees and altitude changes. The course winds through the Elk River valley with shimmering lakes and tree-lined fairways. It features relatively wide fairways with challenging approaches to fast, undulating greens, a signature elevated 13th hole with a two-tiered green, and four notable par threes. Since its opening in 1984, Elk River has remained one of North Carolina's Top Ten golf courses and has hosted the North Carolina Open championship tournament.
