The courses feature hazards, bunkers, water features, and mature trees, with rounds typically completed in under four hours.

Located in Chino, California, El Prado is surrounded by mountains offering views of snow-capped Mount Baldy and the San Bernardino Mountains. The terrain hosts diverse wildlife including red-tailed hawks, migratory ducks, and occasional coyotes. The fairways comprise Kikuyu grass, while greens feature bent grass and poa annua, known for their firm, fast, and undulating surfaces.

A notable characteristic is the prevailing wind that typically begins around noon, altering course conditions and affecting play throughout the day. The property maintains an early California/Spanish architectural theme, with the name referencing the historic Butterfield Stage, a stagecoach stop used by pioneers. The facility includes a clubhouse, café, and bar, accommodating tournaments and special events.
