Douglas Valley Golf Club is a 9-hole par 32 course located in Blackrod, Bolton, in the West Pennine Moors area of Lancashire. Opened in August 1996, the course was designed by local course designer Jeff Shuttleworth and constructed by Craig Cooke, who previously worked on Loch Lomond and Valderama.
Built to US specification, the course features pure sand greens—the only one of its kind in the area. Three purpose-built lakes and the River Douglas, which splits the course in two, create interesting and challenging play. The layout is suitable for both beginners seeking safer routes and experienced golfers seeking adventure.
The setting is notably tranquil, with the Pennine hills providing a scenic backdrop and the course hosting diverse wildlife including Canada Geese and occasional deer. The course benefits from views overlooking Winter Hill, a prominent Lancashire landmark.
Douglas Valley is affiliated with the EGU and EWGA, offering official handicap facilities. The club hosts regular weekly summer competitions and welcomes non-members to compete. Additional facilities include the Chilli Dip Golf Academy with PGA professionals, a 22-bay floodlit driving range, pro shop, and The Hawthorns Tea Rooms and events venue.
