Croham Hurst Golf Club is an 18-hole parkland course located in South Croydon, Surrey, situated in gently rolling countryside just two miles from central Croydon. Designed by the Scottish professional James Braid and Frederick Hawtree, the course was opened in October 1913 after the club company was formed in 1911. Built on chalk, the layout drains well, allowing for year-round play, and features densely wooded areas that contribute to its semi-rural character despite the surrounding urban development.

The course plays from medal tees at 6,206 yards with a par of 70, while the ladies’ tees offer a 5,577-yard layout at par 72. The front nine begins with two long, uphill par 4 holes, setting a demanding tone that requires precision before players tackle the more testing back nine. Accurate driving is rewarded throughout, and the undulating greens provide a consistent challenge for golfers of all standards.

The terrain reflects the beauty of north Surrey countryside, with the 10th tee offering particularly fine views. The layout’s hidden difficulties have been noted by several notable players; Peter Alliss described it as a pleasant but testing members’ course, while Dai Rees, who first played there in 1951, was surprised by the challenges it presented. The club has also hosted leading professionals, including Ryder Cup star Harry Weetman, who served as club professional for six years during the 1950s.
