The original nine holes were designed by Tom Bendelow, and Donald Ross renovated the existing nine holes and added the back nine holes. In 1920, Ross returned to remodel and lengthen the entire course. The 18-hole course features 6,391 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71, with a course rating of 71.1 and a slope rating of 126 on Bermuda grass. The course is renowned for its challenging yet rewarding layout, featuring small, undulating TifEagle greens and strategically placed bunkers that test golfers of all skill levels.
The club is located at 2610 Cherokee Ave, Columbus, Georgia 31906. Columbus Country Club has the most unique land features and routing amongst surrounding clubs in the area. In addition to the 18-hole Championship Course, the club also has a Par 3 course allowing juniors and beginners to learn the game in a comfortable setting.
The Club hosts the first two events of the Columbus Invitational, won by Byron Nelson and Bobby Locke. Columbus Country Club hosts the legendary 1964 PGA Championship won by Bobby Nichols. The club, known as the "triple C" by its members, is the annual host to the prestigious Southeastern Amateur Championship and is home to the Fred Haskins Award, given to the best male collegiate golfer each year.
