Cleghorn Golf & Sports Club features 18 holes and par 71, designed by architect George Cobb and built in 1972. The course plays 6,762 yards from the back tees with a course rating of 73.3 and a slope of 136. The course is located in Rutherfordton, North Carolina, approximately one hour west of Charlotte and forty minutes from Asheville. Four sets of tee boxes accommodate players of all abilities, with electric Club Car golf carts and Laser Link distance measuring devices available.

The George Cobb-designed course travels through the mountains and valleys of western North Carolina with elevated tee boxes, heavily bunkered greens, and rolling fairways that make each hole have its own distinct character. The front nine features tight and hilly terrain, while the back nine has more water and more open fairways. The Champion Bermuda greens are firm and fast, and the course features 58 bunkers throughout the layout.

The course was transformed into Cleghorn Plantation Golf and Country Club in 1972 by designer George Cobb, who has designed well over 100 golf courses including Augusta National's Par 3 Course and Quail Hollow in Charlotte, NC. Golf Digest has listed Cleghorn in their 'Best Places to Play' and the course has been voted 'The #1 Golf Course in Rutherford County' multiple times by readers of the Rutherford Daily Courier.
