Located in Chiba City, Chiba Shin Nihon Golf Club is a 36-hole championship facility set within the gentle, rolling hills of the Boso Peninsula. The course is divided into two distinct nine-hole loops: the Sotobou (Outer Boso) Course and the Uchibou (Inner Boso) Course. Each nine is further split into front and back nines, offering a total of 72 holes for play. The Sotobou Course is characterized by wide fairways and generous distances, while the Uchibou Course features a more varied layout that tests a player's technical versatility. The Sotobou front nine begins with a gentle uphill opening hole, requiring a tee shot that avoids the left-side out-of-bounds before navigating a second shot toward a green that slopes away. The layout includes a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, with yardages ranging from a short 162-yard par 3 to a demanding 616-yard par 5. Key challenges include the 16th hole, a 616-yard par 5 that requires a precise drive and a second shot over a light uphill gradient, and the 13th hole, a 503-yard par 5 that demands careful club selection. The back nine of the Sotobou Course features a 616-yard 16th hole, which is noted for its expansive downhill tee shot and a two-tiered green, as well as a strategic 349-yard par 4 that places hazards on both sides of the fairway. The Uchibou Course presents a different set of tests, starting with a 507-yard par 5 that requires a tee shot over a pond. This loop includes several challenging par 3s, such as the 162-yard 3rd hole, which is a downhill shot over a valley where the green and tee are separated by a significant drop. The 17th hole, a 142-yard par 3, is a short but difficult shot over water with out-of-bounds to the right. The back nine of the Uchibou Course features a 534-yard par 5 at the 15th, described as a signature long hole with a dramatic downhill tee shot and a two-tiered green, and a 531-yard par 5 at the 17th, which requires a precise approach to a sloping green. The course is designed to challenge players with its undulating terrain, strategic bunkering, and the ever-present need for accurate club selection due to the varying elevations and wind conditions typical of the region.
