Located in Madrid, the Centro Nacional de Golf is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Dave Thomas in collaboration with Green Project. Spanning 62 hectares, the layout stretches to 6,417 meters (7,018 yards) and features a configuration of four par-5s, four par-3s, and ten par-4s. The course also includes a six-hole Pitch & Putt facility. Thomas created a long, links-style layout characterized by extensive rough and a notable absence of trees, a design choice that makes wind conditions a critical factor in play. The front nine is defined by narrow, elongated fairways that demand technical precision and strategic shot selection. The back nine presents a different challenge, culminating in three holes dominated by a large lake and views of the Real Federación Española de Golf building. The holes numbered 5, 6, 16, and 18 are highlighted as key features that balance accessibility for beginners with the difficulty required for high-level competition. The facility also boasts the largest TopTracer-equipped driving range in Europe, featuring artificial turf greens that simulate real playing conditions. The course has established a significant tournament history, hosting prestigious events such as the Spanish Challenge in 2006, the Spanish Open in 2007, the Madrid Masters in 2009, and the Spanish Open again in 2018. The 2018 Spanish Open set an attendance record with over 50,000 spectators. Beyond professional events, the course serves as a training base for national amateur teams and scholarship holders from the Joaquín Blume School under the Higher Council for Sports. Opened in March 2006, the course was created by the Spanish Golf Federation to make the sport more accessible to the public.
