Located in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, Yokkaichi Country Club is a championship 18-hole, par-72 golf course designed by renowned architect Osamu Ueda. Opened in December 1959, the course spans 7,305 yards from the back tees and features a course rating of 76.4 with a slope rating of 140. The layout is characterized by wide fairways and large greens, set within a landscape that incorporates naturally grown pine trees and takes advantage of the surrounding terrain. The course is divided into two main green complexes, the Main Green and the New Green, which offer different yardages and strategic challenges. The front nine on the Main Green tees range from 3,265 to 3,665 yards, while the back nine extends to 3,640 yards. The New Green configuration provides slightly shorter yardages, with the front nine ranging from 2,990 to 3,565 yards and the back nine from 3,465 to 3,640 yards. This dual-green setup allows for varied playing conditions and strategic approaches throughout the round. Significant challenges are presented by specific holes that demand precision and power. The 3rd hole is a par-3 that plays from 235 yards from the back tees, but the strong seasonal wind known as "Suzuka oroshi" can turn it into a full-club distance hole, often requiring a driver. The 9th hole is a demanding par-5 stretching 625 yards from the back tees. The second shot is particularly difficult, as the landing area is constrained by a rough slope on the left and a line of pine trees on the right, limiting approach options. The 11th hole, a 455-yard par-4, features a two-tiered green that adds complexity to the approach shot. The fairway demands accurate placement, as missing the center can result in the ball catching heavy rough, forcing players to aim slightly right of the target line to ensure sufficient distance for the approach. These holes, along with the course's overall length and pin positions, contribute to its reputation as a test for skilled golfers. Yokkaichi Country Club has a rich history of hosting major professional tournaments. It was the venue for the Japan Professional Golf Championship in 1962, the Japan Open Golf Championship in 1963 and 1994, and the Japan Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in 2009. The club also hosted the Japan Sports Masters 2010 Mie Tournament and the Japan Women's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in 2011. These events highlight the course's standing in Japanese golf history and its ability to host high-level competition.
