Located in Kozaki, Chiba Prefecture, Akatonbo Country Club is a 18-hole, par-72 course situated on the Kishibori Plateau. The layout takes advantage of the natural terrain along the Tone River basin, where hills and valleys alternate to create a landscape defined by the region's native topography. The course is designed to integrate with the surrounding environment, preserving large cedar and cypress trees that serve as both visual landmarks and strategic obstacles throughout the round. The course offers multiple tee boxes to accommodate varying skill levels, with yardages ranging from 2,500 yards from the orange tees to 3,292 yards from the black tees for the front nine alone. The front nine presents a mix of long par-5s and technical par-4s. The first hole serves as a wide, flat par-5 that sets the tone for the round, while the third hole is a demanding par-3 featuring a two-tiered green that rewards precision over power. The eighth hole is a long par-4 that begins with a tee shot over water, requiring players to navigate a leftward slope to find the fairway. The back nine introduces more water hazards and strategic complexity. The eleventh hole is a par-3 that requires a carry over a pond, with out-of-bounds areas on the left side and a large bunker guarding the front left of the green. The twelfth hole is a wide par-5 flanked by tall cedar and cypress trees, where positioning off the tee is critical. The sixteenth hole is a visually striking par-4 where the green is surrounded by water on all sides except for the right, demanding exact distance control and accuracy. The course is characterized by its strategic design, where holes appear easy but require careful shot selection. The maintenance of the turf and the presence of staff are noted as key components of the playing experience. The club also maintains relationships with sister courses, including Shiro Sato Golf Club and Fukuroda Falls Country Club, indicating a network of facilities within the same management group.
