Rio Fujiwara Country Club is a 36-hole facility located in Inabe City, Mie Prefecture, Japan, set within a 500,000-tsubo (approximately 1.65 million square meter) landscape. The course was designed by Riki Nagase and opened in May 1977, with green supervision by Michio Mori. The property features two distinct 18-hole layouts: the Fujiwara Course and the Nakazato Course, each offering a different strategic challenge. The Fujiwara Course is characterized by its flat and straight design, allowing for powerful, straightforward shots. It features a variety of elevation changes, including the first hole, a par-4 that requires a tee shot from an elevated tee with an uphill second shot. The second hole is a demanding par-4 that requires an uphill approach over a valley, while the seventh hole presents a carry-over-the-valley par-3 guarded by a front bunker. The course also features long holes, such as the fifth, a 588-yard par-5 that demands precise distance management, and the eighth, a 532-yard par-5 with a steep downhill second shot. The ninth hole is a dogleg-left par-4 that requires a precise tee shot to avoid out-of-bounds, followed by an uphill approach to a receptive green. The Nakazato Course offers a more strategic test, often requiring technical shot-making. The first hole is a long par-5 that allows for a two-shot approach for powerful players, while the second is a downhill par-4 where the tee shot is prone to going out of bounds. The third hole is a valley-carrying par-4 that places significant pressure on the drive, with an uphill second shot. The Nakazato Course is noted for its long par-5s, including the eighth hole, which is recommended for long hitters, and the sixth hole, which is suggested for proximity to the pin. Both courses feature multiple tee boxes (Back, Regular, and Ladies/Long) to accommodate different skill levels, with yardages varying significantly from the back tees. The Fujiwara Course has a par of 36 for both nines, while the Nakazato Course also plays to a par of 36 per nine. The facility provides detailed hole-by-hole descriptions and yardage charts for each layout, allowing players to prepare for the specific challenges of elevation changes, doglegs, and out-of-bounds areas that define the Rio Fujiwara experience.
