Cathkin Braes Golf Club, founded in 1888, is Glasgow's oldest golf course and is located five miles from the city centre in the Rutherglen countryside. The course was redesigned by acclaimed architect James Braid and features a moorland layout measuring 6,200 yards with a par of 71. Despite its moorland designation, the course is relatively flat but presents considerable challenges through tree-lined holes and water hazards. A notable feature is the par-3 fifth hole, which requires players to carry a loch to reach a well-protected green. Situated in a rural setting despite its proximity to Glasgow, Cathkin Braes is widely recognised as one of the finest inland courses in the West of Scotland. The course combines strategic design with natural landscape features, offering golfers both mental freedom and tactical challenge. The club provides full clubhouse facilities including bar and catering services, and welcomes both members and visitors.
