Canyata is located just outside the quintessential American farm town of Marshall, and is a 7,200-yard stunner molded from the rugged and rolling farmland of east central Illinois by golf architect Michael Benkusky. The 18-hole course features 7,266 yards of golf for a par of 72, with a course rating of 76.0 and a slope rating of 149 on bent grass. Canyata was meticulously crafted from two million cubic yards of transformed farmland, features immaculate bent grass fairways, breathtaking water features and sculpted bunkers.
The course was named the No. 2 Best New Private Course in the United States in 2005 by Golf Digest magazine. Canyata Golf Club in Marshall, Illinois, is ranked as one of the best golf courses in the country. The land's unique mix of pristine pastures, rocky ravines and soaring woods creates demanding holes, with the second hole, a 583-yard par 5, featuring a forced carry of 170 yards from the back tees. The 221-yard, par-3 third hole plays from one of the more picturesque spots on the golf course: high atop a hill overlooking the green, playing some 40 feet downhill and most often into a prevailing wind.
At the end of 2024, Escalante Golf, the Fort Worth, TX-based boutique owner and operator of a portfolio of private golf clubs and resorts, became the new owner of Canyata.
