Club Campestre San Jose is an 18-hole, par-71 golf course located in the rolling foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, just five minutes from downtown San Jose del Cabo. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the layout is set in desert terrain with views of the Sea of Cortes and features fairways chiseled into sloping ground. The course is notable for being the first in the region to utilize saltwater-resistant Paspalum grass, providing a consistent playing surface in the local desert conditions. The course presents a significant test of golf, with yardages ranging from 4,917 yards on the red tees to 6,996 yards on the black tees. The difficulty is underscored by slope ratings between 117 and 139 and course ratings from 67.3 to 74.3 depending on the tee box. Key characteristics include vast sandy waste areas, sinuous arroyos snaking across the fairways, and free-form bunkers that demand careful course management. The putting surfaces are described as undulating and multi-tiered, among the most contoured in Los Cabos. A signature feature of the layout is the risk-reward par-5 7th hole, a double-dogleg that plays to a well-bunkered peninsula green. The back nine ascends to higher ground, circulating players around a rolling desert plateau high above the sea. This section includes the par-3 11th hole, which stretches 216 yards to a large green with false fronts on all sides. The facility is a public resort course that welcomes guests and offers a complete practice facility, rental clubs, and golf instruction by a PGA professional.
