Byron Nelson Country Club is a 27-hole, 10,125-yard, par-108 golf course located in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Designed by legendary American golfer Byron Nelson and Golf Resourcing, the course was developed over six years and opened in October 1994. The facility sits on approximately one million square meters of land, featuring a mix of rolling hills and open terrain that allows for a resort-style experience. The course is divided into three distinct nine-hole loops: the West, South, and East courses, which can be played in various combinations to create 18-hole rounds of varying lengths and difficulties. The layout is characterized by dramatic elevation changes and strategic water hazards. The West Course features a demanding opening hole, a par-5 dogleg right where the fairway is bordered by out-of-bounds on the right, requiring precise tee shots. The South Course includes a challenging par-5 fifth hole, a long dogleg left with a cliff on the left side of the fairway and a two-tiered green that is guarded by out-of-bounds at the back. The ninth hole on the South Course is a straight par-5 where a large water hazard wraps around the front and side of the green, demanding accurate approach shots. The East Course offers a different challenge, highlighted by a long par-5 seventh hole that doglegs slightly right and features bunkers on the left side. The course utilizes multiple tee boxes, including back, regular, silver, and ladies tees, allowing players of different skill levels to navigate the terrain. The greens are planted with Penncross and Dominant mixed grasses, while the fairways consist of Korean grass and the rough of wild grass. Byron Nelson Country Club is equipped with a practice range, a driving range, and on-site accommodation including cottages, catering to both serious golfers and those seeking a leisure stay. The course is designed to be played with self-propelled carts and offers a variety of play styles, including team competitions. The design emphasizes strategic shot-making, with hazards placed to penalize errant drives while rewarding accurate ball-striking on the undulating greens.
