Big Oak Golf Course opened in 1965 as a nine-hole layout built by original owners Jim Logue and Lloyd Aikens. Located in Geneva, the course was purchased by Graham Sharman in 1979, who initiated an extensive tree-planting program that now defines the front nine's aesthetic character. Sharman's vision for expansion was realized in 1999 with the addition of a back nine, creating a full 18-hole championship course. The expansion required years of land acquisition and development efforts. In 2008, ownership transferred to Sharman's son Dave and his wife Maureen, who have continued course and clubhouse improvements while maintaining the family-operated model. The course is characterized by its tree-lined holes, particularly on the front nine, and maintains a reputation for friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The layout reflects its incremental development history, with distinct characteristics between the original and expanded nines. Big Oak remains a family-operated facility with multiple generations actively involved in course maintenance and clubhouse operations.
