Belvedere Golf Club is a 18-hole championship course in Charlevoix, Michigan, designed by renowned Scottish architect William Watson. Located on the highlands of former farmland bisected by Marion Center Road, the course is routed across both sides of the property with strategic use of the terrain's natural elevation changes.
The front nine descends from the hill into a valley, flowing around and over a winding creek before returning uphill at hole 6 and playing along the ridge to hole 9. The back nine begins downhill at hole 10, climbs to the elevated green at hole 11, meanders through the valley, drops off the ridge at hole 15, and finishes with a dramatic climb on the signature 16th hole to one of the course's most notable green sites.
Watson's design emphasizes strategic routing and creative use of the landscape. The course has tested championship-level golfers for nearly a century and is recognized as among the finest examples of early American golf architecture. Watson, a Scottish native trained under Old Tom Morris's influence, was nationally recognized alongside Donald Ross and George C. Thomas as a leading course architect of the era, designing over 100 courses throughout his career.
