Avila Beach Golf Resort is a championship par-72 course spanning 6,500 yards, designed by Olin Dutra and Desmond Muirhead and opened in 1969. Located three miles south of San Luis Obispo and northwest of Pismo Beach on California's Central Coast, the course is nestled in surrounding hills on the edge of Avila Bay.

The course features kikuyu grass fairways and quick bentgrass greens characteristic of classic design. The front nine traverses hilly terrain with small, elevated greens set within oak-lined valleys, while the back nine crosses a tidal estuary with several forced water carries and multi-level greens. These design elements create strategic challenges throughout the layout.

The setting offers scenic views of the bay, estuary, and surrounding mountains, with wildlife viewing opportunities during play. The course accommodates golfers of varying abilities while presenting a challenging test of skill. The resort includes additional amenities such as a pro shop, driving range, and on-site dining at Mulligan's Bar & Grill, along with event facilities for weddings and tournaments.
