Aso Iizuka Golf Club is a 27-hole facility located in Kikawa, Asakura District, Fukuoka, set on a flat hilly terrain with moderate undulations. The course was designed by Yoshimasa Fujii, a prominent figure in Japanese golf known as the "Wajima Wild Man," who won the 1971 Japan Open. The layout features large bent greens and strategically placed ponds, requiring accurate shot selection and reading of the terrain. The club opened in October 1973, founded by Taika Asou, who sought to develop the area's former coal mining sites into a community asset. The course is divided into three 9-hole loops: the Blue, Green, and White courses. Each loop plays to Par 36. The Blue Course measures 3,242 yards from the middle tees and is characterized by water hazards, particularly on the second and fourth holes which require shots over ponds. The Green Course, measuring 3,200 yards from the middle tees, is described as the most representative of the club's hilly nature, featuring significant elevation changes that challenge players' approach shots. The White Course, at 3,205 yards from the middle tees, sits at the highest elevation of the three and is noted for being particularly affected by wind conditions. The full 27-hole layout offers varying yardages depending on the combination of loops played. The Blue and White combination totals 7,081 yards from the back tees, while the Blue and Green combination measures 6,809 yards. The Green and White combination plays to 6,920 yards. The course is known for its strategic demands, with each hole requiring careful consideration of pin positions and wind direction. The fairways are described as wide, but the approach shots must navigate the undulating terrain and water hazards to reach the large, sensitive greens. Aso Iizuka Golf Club has a significant history of hosting professional tournaments. It hosted the 1978 Kansai Pro Seniors Championship, the 1987 Kyushu Open, and the 2013 Japan Seniors Open Golf Championship. The club also hosted the JLPGA Step Up Tour in 1999 and the PGA Senior Tour Komatsu Open in 2000. In 2004, 2005, and 2006, it hosted the Asahi Green健 Yomiuri Aso Iizuka Memorial Open, featuring winners Y.E. Yang, Dong Yi, and Takehiko Ichihara. The club continues to host various amateur and professional events, including its own club championships and inter-club competitions.
