MacDonald Golf Course

MacDonald Golf Course is a par 72 course measuring 6,958 yards located at 840 N Yale Avenue in Wichita, Kansas. Originally established as the Wichita Country Club in 1913, it is the city's oldest golf course and ranks among the most popular public courses in Wichita, having been voted one of the best by Wichita Eagle readers for many years.

The course features fairways lined with beautiful, mature cottonwood trees throughout its layout. Recent improvements have enhanced playability, including sod placement in fairways, rough over-seeding, and enlargement of collar areas on 15 holes. The third fairway was repositioned eastward for better hole playability. Additional tees have been added strategically: new ladies' tees on holes 3, 5, 14, 15, and 16, and blue tees on holes 2, 9, 10, and 18 to provide options for different skill levels.

The course experienced challenges from geese overpopulation but implemented innovative management solutions. Since 2019, a specially trained goose dog has successfully reduced the geese population and associated course maintenance issues, contributing to an 82% increase in rounds played. The Steve Hatchett Youth Golf Campus driving range, opened in 2020 by First Tee Greater Wichita, provides youth golf instruction and access opportunities.
