Situated on the Akagi Plateau at an elevation of 600 meters in Gunma Prefecture, Akagi Golf Club is a flat 18-hole course set within the natural undulations of Mount Akagi. The layout is designed to balance strategic demands with the scenic beauty of the highland terrain, offering expansive views from the teeing grounds that extend across the surrounding landscape. The course is accessible via the Akagi Interchange on the Joetsu Expressway, located just two kilometers and three minutes away. The front nine presents a mix of long par fives and technical par fours. The first hole is a 519-yard par 5 from the back tees, identified as a drive-distance recommended hole, where players must navigate a cross bunker on the right side of the fairway. The sixth hole, the longest on the course at 582 yards, features a tee shot that requires avoiding hazards to the left, followed by a third shot onto a raised green that demands precise distance control. The eighth hole is a 188-yard par 3 recommended for proximity to the pin, featuring a downhill shot over a valley with a large green that requires careful pin placement awareness. The back nine continues the strategic challenge with significant length and hazard placement. The eleventh hole is a 530-yard par 5 where the second shot must clear a large water hazard extending from the left side of the green. The thirteenth hole, another 556-yard par 5, is a gentle dogleg right that rewards accurate driving and second shots down the fairway. The fourteenth hole is a short 152-yard par 3 with a water hazard guarding the front, while the seventeenth hole stands as a demanding 229-yard par 3 where missing the green to the rear or sides results in difficult approach shots. The course total yardage from the back tees is 7,010 yards, with a par of 72. The front nine measures 3,407 yards and the back nine 3,603 yards. The layout includes specific local rules regarding out of bounds marked by white stakes, repair areas, and water hazards. The course features multiple water hazards and bunkers, with specific holes identified for drive distance or proximity to the pin to guide player strategy. The terrain remains relatively flat despite the mountainous setting, allowing for consistent play conditions across the 18 holes.
