Venue

Craighead Links

Crail, Fife, Scotland

Craighead Links is a championship-caliber golf course designed by acclaimed American architect Gil Hanse, located on the clifftops of Crail, Scotland. The 18-hole course features a par layout with yardages ranging from approximately 5,500 to 6,200 yards across multiple tee positions, accommodating golfers of all skill levels. Set within a dramatic coastal landscape, Craighead is distinguished by breathtaking panoramic views overlooking the Firth of Forth, including vistas of May Island and Bass Rock. The design uniquely incorporates remnants of medieval drystone walling throughout the course, which Hanse expertly integrated into the layout rather than removing. The course presents a significant challenge from the back tees while remaining accessible from forward tees. Notable features include signature pot bunkers, strategically placed tee boxes, and undulating greens that demand precision. The layout flows through varied terrain with holes like the par-5 6th along the wall and the elevated par-4 14th offering particularly memorable experiences. Craighead has hosted national and international championships at full length, establishing its reputation as one of Scotland's finest championship venues. The combination of architectural excellence, natural landscape, and historical integration creates a distinctive and memorable golfing experience.
