Hadley Wood Golf Course

Greater London, England

Hadley Wood Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Dr. Alister MacKenzie and opened in 1922 in North London, located 30 minutes from Central London. Set across 265 acres of tranquil parkland with mature trees, water features, and sweeping views of Hertfordshire countryside, the course exemplifies MacKenzie's signature design philosophy. The layout features characteristic MacKenzie elements including raised plateau greens—many multi-tiered—imaginative fairway sloping, and strategic bunkering that provide a fair yet challenging test. These design features mirror those later employed at Augusta National, which MacKenzie designed a decade after Hadley Wood. The course is considered one of the finest authentic examples of MacKenzie's work. The terrain combines playable design with engaging difficulty, creating a memorable experience for players of all levels. The beautiful parkland setting with mature trees and water features distinguishes the course landscape. Currently ranked 77th in England's Top 100 courses and 6th in London's Top 100, Hadley Wood offers excellent clubhouse facilities alongside its championship-caliber layout. The club provides a relaxed, friendly atmosphere while maintaining the course as an uncrowded, fair challenge.
