Guildford Golf Club

Surrey, England

Guildford Golf Club is Surrey's oldest golf club, established in 1886 and redesigned by renowned architect J H Taylor. Located on Merrow Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the course stretches 6,160 yards across typical chalk downland terrain bordered by woodlands. The layout features rolling slopes characteristic of classic English inland courses, with no two holes alike, offering varied challenges throughout. The setting provides exceptional panoramic views across the Surrey Hills, extending to Guildford Cathedral, Wembley Arch, and Canary Wharf. The chalk downland creates a distinctive playing environment that presents an attractive but challenging test suitable for golfers of all abilities. The course remains open in all seasons, though weather conditions may affect playability. The club has invested significantly in recent course improvements while maintaining its traditional heritage. Facilities include a clubhouse with bars, practice range, and short game areas available to all visitors. The course's forward-thinking approach combines classic golf course design with modern membership flexibility options.
