South Moor Golf Club

Burton, MI, United States

South Moor Golf Club is a Dr. Alister MacKenzie-designed course located in Stanley, County Durham, and serves as a county championship venue. The course winds through heathland terrain, featuring gorse, heather, and bracken in its natural setting. The layout is characterized by its strategic design, with each hole presenting distinct challenges. A notable feature is the large, undulating greens reminiscent of Augusta National style, which reflect MacKenzie's signature design philosophy. These greens are particularly demanding for golfers and showcase the distinctive qualities that made MacKenzie renowned. The course embodies the hallmarks of MacKenzie's celebrated portfolio, which included prestigious layouts such as Augusta National, Cypress Point, and Royal Melbourne. The heathland setting provides an engaging and naturally charming environment for play. South Moor hosts various competitions, including the North of England Under 14s Junior Stroke Play Championship, demonstrating its status as a significant venue in regional golf. The club welcomes both members and visitors, offering green fees and society play options.
