Nara Public Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-70 facility located in Nara City, designed by Masayoshi Horishita and opened in November 1973. The course spans 5,500 yards from the back tees and is characterized by a layout where each hole on the outward nine is separated by small hills. The design utilizes Korean grass for the greens and operates as a public course managed by the Kansan Golf Course Association. The outward nine presents a mix of long challenges and technical short holes. The first hole is a 500-yard par-5 dogleg right, where a drive reaching the bunker at 260 yards sets up a two-shot approach. The second hole is a demanding 100-yard par-3 with a downhill shot to a right or left green, requiring precise distance control. The fifth hole is a flat 330-yard par-4 where avoiding the out-of-bounds on the right is critical. The sixth hole, a 470-yard par-5, is recommended for long hitters, while the ninth hole is a 150-yard par-3 carrying water, where players are advised to club up to avoid the hazard short. The inward nine features significant elevation changes and water hazards. The tenth hole is a 475-yard par-5 requiring a long uphill drive to a relatively flat area. The twelfth hole is a 490-yard par-5 with a steep downhill tee shot and undulating terrain for subsequent shots. The thirteenth hole is a 180-yard par-3 carrying a valley, with out-of-bounds areas guarding the left and right sides of the green. The seventeenth hole is a 130-yard par-3 with a two-tiered green and subtle undulations that can lead to three-putts if the ball is not placed precisely. The eighteenth hole serves as a dramatic finish, described as a 290-yard par-4 with expansive views. It is a downhill shot where wind direction requires careful attention, and players are advised to prioritize a two-shot round over attempting to reach the green in one. The course also features a twelfth hole as a recommended long-drive target and a seventeenth hole as a recommended close-to-the-pin target.
