Takamatsu Public Golf Course

香川県, Japan

Takamatsu Public Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-72 seaside course located in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, situated on land reclaimed from former salt fields. Opened in 1974, the course is designed for American-style golf played on riding carts, offering a layout that is generally flat but punctuated by ponds and bunkers throughout. The setting provides views of Mount Yashima, a famous landmark in the Seto Inland Sea, allowing players to enjoy nature within the city limits. The course is accessible via a short drive from the city center, positioned just ten minutes from Kawaramachi Station. This proximity to urban amenities, combined with the natural surroundings, creates a unique environment where players might encounter local wildlife such as wild tanuki or turtles during their round. The terrain is characterized by its level fairways, which facilitate a comfortable self-play experience for golfers of all skill levels. Hole distances vary significantly depending on the tee selection, with the back tees offering a total length of 5,898 yards and the front tees measuring 2,536 yards for the outward half. The back nine presents a total distance of 2,950 yards from the back tees, while the front nine measures 2,948 yards. Handicaps are assigned to each hole to balance the difficulty, with the par-5 sixth hole serving as the stroke index 1 on the back nine, and the par-5 sixth hole on the front nine also carrying a stroke index of 1. The layout includes a mix of par-3, par-4, and par-5 holes, with the longest holes being the par-5 sixth and thirteenth holes. The course is equipped to handle various tournament formats, as evidenced by its history of hosting events such as the All Japan Women's Senior and Mid-Senior Amateur Golf Championship qualifiers. The facility supports a range of play styles, from casual rounds to competitive matches, utilizing the flat terrain and strategic water hazards to challenge players.
