Thurlestone Golf Course

Devon, England

Thurlestone Golf Club is an 18-hole course designed by Harry Colt, located in Devon's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the Bigbury Bay coastline. The course features a blend of links and cliff-top terrain, with the latter offering panoramic views of Thurlestone Rock to the east and the Avon Estuary and Burgh Island to the west. The layout presents an exhilarating golfing experience characterized by majestic rocky seascapes overlooking historic coves. The first twelve holes run along the headland, providing true links-style play with thick, springy turf that encourages solid ball striking. Despite its dramatic setting, the course is considered suitable for holiday golf, featuring reasonably generous fairways and not overly severe conditions, though coastal winds can be challenging. The terrain combines natural coastal beauty with strategic design, incorporating the rugged Devon landscape into the course routing. The dramatic clifftop positioning and views of local landmarks create a distinctive visual character reminiscent of premium seaside courses. The course maintains traditional standards, currently operating carry-only without buggy or trolley use.
