Fuji Oyama Golf Club

駿東郡, Japan

Located at the eastern foot of Mount Fuji in Oyama-machi, Shizuoka, Fuji Oyama Golf Club is a 7,015-yard, par-72 course that opened in 1962. Designed by renowned architect Toru Nakamura, the layout is set within a 792,000-square-meter area of natural terrain. The course is characterized by its wide fairways and a design that utilizes the natural topography to create a spacious playing environment. A defining feature of the course is the unobstructed view of Mount Fuji from every single hole, a trait emphasized by the club's identity as a hillside course where the mountain is visible throughout the round. The course is divided into two nines, with the front nine starting with a 356-yard par-4 and a 529-yard par-5, while the back nine features a demanding 516-yard par-5 at the 15th hole. The layout includes a mix of par-3s, par-4s, and par-5s, with handicap indices distributed to balance the difficulty. The course features left and right green configurations on several holes, adding strategic complexity to the approach shots. The design avoids blind holes, allowing players to see their targets, but requires precise club selection and strategy to navigate the distance and the natural separation provided by pine forests and other vegetation. Fuji Oyama Golf Club is part of the Odakyu Group network of courses. The facility is accessible via the Tomei Expressway and the Higashi-Fuji Five Lakes Road, with direct train connections from Shinjuku in Tokyo via the Odakyu Romancecar. The course has maintained its reputation for offering a strategic test of golf that demands the use of a full set of clubs, rewarding players who can effectively manage the distance and the natural elements of the landscape. The course rating and slope values indicate a challenging experience for both men and women, with specific ratings for different tee boxes to accommodate various skill levels.
