Kainan Kogen Country Club, located in Arikawa-cho, Arida District, Wakayama Prefecture, features a unique 45-hole facility comprising three distinct 18-hole courses: the Kagamiishi, Oishi, and Nagamine courses. The layout is designed to offer varied challenges, with the Kagamiishi and Oishi courses each split into outward and inward nines, while the Nagamine course plays as a single 18-hole loop. The courses are recognized by the Kansai Golf Union (KGU), with official course ratings indicating a high level of difficulty, particularly on the Kagamiishi course which features a combined par of 74 for the full 18 holes. The Kagamiishi course is characterized by its length and driving demands. The outward nine carries a par of 37, with the back nine also at par 37, totaling 74. A standout feature is the fourth hole, a par-5 that serves as the course's signature long hole. From the back tees, this hole stretches 604 yards, requiring powerful drives and strategic placement to avoid out-of-bounds areas on the right side. The design encourages long-distance play, rewarding golfers who can execute豪快 (bold) shots down the left side. In contrast, the Oishi course presents a more technical test, particularly on its opening hole. The first hole is a par-4 measuring 390 yards from the back tees, described as a powerful downhill middle hole. The tee shot requires precision to avoid the out-of-bounds line on the right, while the approach shot must account for a receptive green that plays uphill from below. The Oishi course totals 72 par, with the outward nine at 36 and the inward nine at 36. The Nagamine course offers a par-72 layout, with the entire 18 holes measuring 3,540 yards from the back tees. This course is often utilized for group events and large competitions, accommodating up to 100 groups. The facility supports various playing styles, including 1.5-round play, two-sum play, and full course rentals, making it a versatile destination for both serious golfers and casual players seeking a diverse experience in the Wakayama highlands.
