Hachinohe Golf Club is located in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, situated on the floodplain of the Manabigawa River. The course operates as a 9-hole layout with 18 distinct teeing grounds, allowing for a full 18-hole round. The front nine totals 2,687 yards with a par of 36, while the back nine measures 2,627 yards, also for a par of 36. The total yardage for the course is 5,314 yards. The terrain is generally flat, characteristic of a river floodplain, but the open setting exposes players to significant wind effects, particularly from the east or west, which frequently influences club selection and strategy. The course presents several unique challenges, including water hazards and out-of-bounds areas that define the routing. The 2nd hole is a par 3 where the use of drivers, woods, and utility clubs is prohibited, and a water channel sits directly in front of the green. The 5th and 9th holes are dual-par holes, functioning as par 4 and par 5 on the front nine, and par 5 and par 4 on the back nine, respectively. These holes feature water hazards, including a pond on the 5th fairway and a water hazard on the 9th, requiring precise placement off the tee. The 9th hole also features a demanding downhill tee shot over a water channel. Hachinohe Golf Club was established in 1957, with the original six-hole course opening on the river floodplain in 1960. The course expanded to nine holes in 1961 and eventually to 18 holes in 1975. The facility has a history of recovering from significant flooding events, including major inundation from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake tsunami and subsequent typhoons. Despite these challenges, the club has maintained its operation, adding new teeing grounds in recent years to facilitate the 18-tee system. The course is known for its accessibility and has been featured in golf publications for its unique riverfront setting.
