Suzuka Country Club is a 54-hole facility located in Tsu, Mie Prefecture, situated at the foot of the Suzuka Mountain Range. The course spans 1,000,000 tsubo and consists of three distinct layouts: the East, Central, and West courses. Designed by architect Fukuichi Kato, the club opened in September 1975 after a provisional opening in 1974. The total par for the three courses is 216, with the Central Course carrying a course rating of 75.8. The Central Course is characterized by an American-style layout that emphasizes power golf, utilizing the natural terrain of ponds and valleys. It features a par 72 layout with a total distance of 7,173 yards from the back tees. The front nine includes a 518-yard first hole and a 543-yard seventh hole, both offering opportunities for long drives. The back nine presents significant challenges, including a 571-yard 12th hole with out-of-bounds running along the left side and a 529-yard 15th hole with a raised, platform-style green. Strategic hazards such as cross bunkers and water features require precise shot placement. The West Course offers a contrasting experience, described as a Japanese garden course with a backdrop of the Suzuka Mountains. The terrain is largely flat, with holes separated by pine forests, creating a serene environment that demands technical precision rather than raw distance. The layout features numerous cross bunkers and guard bunkers that test a player's short game. The course includes a 499-yard 9th hole and a 429-yard 6th hole, with the par 72 layout requiring careful navigation of its subtle contours and well-placed hazards. The East Course is noted for its tricky and varied design, featuring a series of river and pond crossings that create a dynamic flow. The fairways are spacious, but the course is littered with hazards that penalize power hitters who lack strategic control. The layout demands technical shots and careful course management, with hazards appearing frequently throughout the round. This course provides a distinct challenge from the other two, focusing on accuracy and adaptability to changing terrain and water features.
