Golf la Prée La Rochelle

Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Located in Marsilly, just outside La Rochelle, Golf de La Prée is an 18-hole course designed by Olivier Brizon. Situated less than 15 minutes from the city center, the layout faces the Île de Ré and the Baie de l’Aiguillon, offering views of the ocean and the surrounding marshlands. The course, which opened in 1989, spans 5,931 meters and blends the characteristics of a links course with those of a plain golf course, featuring a mix of wide fairways, narrow corridors, ponds, streams, and shrubbery. The front nine holes are characterized by wide fairways and undulating greens protected by numerous bunkers, with minimal tree cover allowing the marine breeze to significantly influence play. The back nine presents a different challenge, with narrower fairways where water hazards such as lakes and streams, inhabited by ducks and coots, demand precision. The course is built on the site of an ancient marsh, a feature that contributes to its unique environmental character and biodiversity. Golf de La Prée hosts a variety of competitions throughout the year, including the Grand Prix de La Rochelle, the Open de l'Océan, and the Trophée des Dames. The club also organizes regular ranking competitions and club championships, maintaining a strong competitive calendar that attracts both local and visiting golfers. The course serves as a training ground for the local golf school and accommodates over 8,000 external players annually alongside its 600 members.
