Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club, established in 1906, is a championship-level course located on the Lancashire coast near Ainsdale. The layout weaves through distinctive coastal dunes and heathland terrain, featuring well-maintained undulating fairways, rolling greens, and strategically positioned bunkers. The course is characterized by colourful yellow gorse and purple heather, creating a visually striking natural setting enhanced by fresh sea breezes across the Irish Sea. As a true championship test, the course presents significant challenges through its design and strategic bunkering. The club holds considerable historical significance, having hosted the Ryder Cup on two occasions—in 1933 and 1937—and is regularly selected by the R&A for their rotational hosting of the Amateur Championship. The course is recognized for providing both a challenging and enjoyable golfing experience, combining natural landscape features with careful course maintenance. Its reputation has attracted golfers for over a century, with the course valued for maintaining its original historic charm while continuing to serve as a demanding test of golf.
