Minchinhampton Golf Course

Gloucestershire, England

Minchinhampton Golf Club operates three distinct courses in Gloucestershire. The Cherington Course, styled as an inland links, features vast undulating greens, thick rough, and firm, fast fairways set within rolling Cotswold landscape. The Avening Course is a classic parkland design by Fred Hawtree, characterized by lakes, mature specimen trees, strategic bunkering, and challenging greens with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The Old Course, established in 1889 on Minchinhampton Common, offers a unique natural layout with rolling grassland, no bunkers, and panoramic vistas reflecting the club's 125-year history. All three courses are renowned for year-round presentation and excellent drainage. The two Championship Courses—Avening and Cherington—regularly host National Championships and County Events. The Cherington hosted Open Championship Regional Qualifying from 2002-2007, while the Avening Course hosted it from 2018-2024. The courses present varying difficulty levels, from the championship-standard Cherington and Avening courses to the distinctive natural challenge of the Old Course, which features occasional wildlife hazards alongside its inherent topographical challenges.
