Hickory Sticks Golf Club

OH, United States

Hickory Sticks Golf Club is an 18-hole course in Van Wert, Ohio, featuring 6,378 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72, designed by William J. Spear, ASGCA, and opened in 1963. The course has a rating of 72.1 and a slope rating of 120. Originally announced in 1961 as the Edgecreek Golf Course and laid out on the former Stoops farm south of Van Wert, the course has since undergone name changes, eventually becoming Hickory Sticks Golf Club. The current name was chosen as an effort to get back to an old style golf course feeling, inspired by the hickory sticks that golf clubs were once made of. The course features 10 bodies of water with 4 fountains and a creek that meanders through the layout. In addition to the 18-hole championship course, Hickory Sticks offers 4 holes of links-style golf for beginners, 9 holes of disc golf, and 9 holes of foot golf on the property. Various holes present distinct challenges: the front nine begins with a par 4 with a creek carry on the tee shot, while hole 18 is a long par 4 where long hitters can potentially fly the creek and position themselves for birdie opportunities.
