The course is sheltered to the north by the Wenallt Hills, with the historic 13th-century Castell Coch providing a picturesque backdrop. Founded in 1914, Whitchurch has developed into a respected parkland layout noted for its challenging Par 3 and Par 4 holes. The course features fast, tricky greens and strategic bunkering designed to penalise wayward shots. The amateur course record stands at 63, while the professional record of 62 is held by Ian Woosnam. The course is consistently maintained to high standards and offers excellent facilities including a clubhouse, pro shop, and practice areas. Visitors and societies are welcomed, and the venue regularly hosts open competitions and corporate events throughout the year.
