Dunning Golf Club

Dunning, Perth and Kinross, United Kingdom

Dunning Golf Club is a 9-hole parkland course situated in the centre of the village of Dunning in Perthshire, Scotland, set against the backdrop of the Ochil Hills. The course occupies the Rollo Park, land gifted to the village in 1946 by Lord Rollo of Pitcairn for sporting and recreational purposes. The layout was designed by Joe Anderson of Perth, whose daughter Jessie Valentine went on to become one of Britain's most successful amateur lady golfers of the mid-twentieth century. A new clubhouse was opened in 1954 by Lord Rollo, who holds Honorary Presidency of the club, and a community pavilion was added in 2010. Playing over 9 holes with two sets of medal tees, the course offers a full 18-hole experience measuring 4,894 yards at a par of 66. The terrain is largely flat parkland, with tree-lined fairways, well-positioned bunkers, and small, fast greens providing the primary challenges. The Dunning Burn meanders through the course and comes into play on several holes, crossed by four bridges named after notable club members. Each hole carries its own name, many referencing local landmarks and points of historical significance, including Craig Rossie, Duncrub, St Serf, and Maggie Wall, the latter commemorating the last witch burned in Scotland in 1657. The course sits approximately seven miles from Gleneagles and has been voted among Scotland's top nine-hole courses by the Scotsman. Recent improvements to the course have included new tees, revised bunkering, updated signage, and the creation of a practice putting green. The club maintains an active junior coaching programme and a full competition schedule throughout the season.
