The land has previously served as an oak forest, English Civil War battlefield, baronial deer park, coal and ironstone mining area, and tank testing ground. The club boasts a modern, well-equipped clubhouse with a 19th hole overlooking the course. The greens are noted for being quick and true, and pin placements are frequently positioned in tricky locations.
