Links Road
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom
Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, founded in 1780, is the sixth oldest golf club in the world. Located at Balgownie near Aberdeen, Scotland, the club relocated to its current links course in 1888 after playing on Queen's Links for over a century.
The Balgownie Course was originally designed by the renowned Simpson Brothers, Archie and Robert of Carnoustie. James Braid later enhanced the layout by re-bunkering and lengthening the course to meet modern standards while preserving its classic links character. The club received its "Royal" patronage from Edward VII in 1903.
Set on traditional Scottish linksland, the course features characteristic links terrain with notable elements including the Valley hole (4th) and a blind green (13th). The course presents the typical challenges of seaside golf with undulating fairways and strategic bunkering.
Royal Aberdeen has hosted major national and international tournaments, including the Scottish Aberdeen Asset Management Open in 2014. The club maintains its traditional clubhouse steeped in history while continuing to operate as a competitive links course welcoming both members and visitors.
