If you read my earlier blog about repeating events, you'll know that it's quite a difficult thing to master. I don't give up easily, but in this case, I've made an executive decision to drop these events from the site. Here's why:
- Most people visiting this site are searching for 'special' one-off events.
- As a general rule of thumb, the regular weekly type events are run by smaller clubs, with poor websites.
- Filling our site with these events makes it harder for users to find the top events they may be looking for.
- Because these events are poorly documented and may be inaccurate, it lowers the overall quality of the data on the site, which sends a negative signal to search engines such as Google and Bing, and search engines are the lifeblood of the site.
So for now, they're gone. They may come back in a different form in the future, but our main focus will always be the stand-alone events - things like an Annual open, and events run by amateur tour operators.
