The Toro Tour is a winter golf competition series based on the Costa del Sol in Spain, specifically designed for professional and amateur golfers seeking competitive opportunities and world ranking points during the off-season. Launched in 2020, the tour hosts approximately 16 three-day tournaments annually from November through March, with events approved and recognized by both the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and European Golf Rankings (EGR). The tour operates across premier courses in the Marbella, Estepona, and Sotogrande regions, with recent expansion to include courses from La Cala de Mijas to La Hacienda Links in Cadiz. No membership is required to enter events, making participation accessible to international golfers, though optional membership provides discounts and Order of Merit benefits.
A distinctive feature of the Toro Tour is its unified prize fund structure and open competition format. Professional and amateur players compete in the same events with equal entry fees, with no membership required. Prize money is available to both professionals and amateurs, with €100 per registered player contributed to the prize fund. Under R&A rules effective from January 2022, amateurs can win up to £700 per event. The tour recently partnered with PG Golf & Sports Academy, operated by European Tour professional Peter Gustafsson, providing competitors with access to state-of-the-art Trackman facilities, coaching, and comprehensive accommodation and training packages during their stay.
The tour combines competitive opportunity with player development, as amateurs compete for WAGR ranking points while observing and learning from touring professionals. The stable winter climate of southern Spain ensures courses remain in tournament condition throughout the season. Players benefit from coordinated scheduling around the academy facilities, allowing extended practice and coaching opportunities between tournament days.
