Chambers Bay Golf Course

University Place, WA, United States

Chambers Bay is a links-style golf course located in University Place, Washington, on the shores of Puget Sound. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., the course features dramatic topography with wide fairways, lumpy greens, and firm surfaces characteristic of traditional links golf. The layout offers stunning views of Puget Sound and the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. The course is known for its challenging and rugged design that demands both creativity and precision. Chambers Bay has hosted multiple USGA championships, including the 2010 U.S. Amateur (its championship debut), the 2015 U.S. Open (the first U.S. Open in the Pacific Northwest and the first played on fine fescue greens), the 2021 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship, and the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship. The 2015 U.S. Open was won by Jordan Spieth, who became the youngest player to win both the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year. Notable features include the course's sustainable, nature-driven approach to maintenance and its unique challenge of featuring holes played as both par-4 and par-5 on different days. The course is praised for testing world-class golfers while remaining a public facility, solidifying its reputation as a world-class championship venue despite its relative youth in golf history.
