South Grove Golf Course was established in 1902 and designed by local architect Harry Schopp, who also designed Pleasant Run and Sarah Shank Golf Courses. Located just two miles from downtown Indianapolis, the course takes its name from the grove of trees lining the south side of the property. The relatively flat layout features tight, tree-lined fairways with natural variations in terrain, including gently rolling hills and elevated plateaus used strategically for green and tee placements. The course offers views of the Indianapolis skyline. While the design emphasizes the interplay between trees and fairways, the course presents a moderate challenge through its corridor-style routing. South Grove has a distinguished tournament history, hosting numerous amateur championships throughout its existence. Most notably, it hosts the annual South Grove Spring Four-Ball, a prestigious local tournament that began in 1948 and continues each April, establishing the course as an important venue for competitive amateur golf in the Indianapolis area.
