Description

The Wille/Steele Memorial 2-Man is an open pairs competition held at Saukie Golf Course on August 16, 2026. Teams will compete using Stableford scoring, a format that rewards solid play throughout the round by awarding points based on net score relative to par at each hole.

Saukie Golf Course is a public executive-length course located in Rock Island, Illinois, built in 1927 and opened in 1928. Designed by renowned architect Thomas Bendelow, the course represents a classic early 20th-century design. Measuring just over 5,000 yards with a par of 66, Saukie is intentionally short but challenging for all skill levels. The course features distinctive design elements including small greens, deep ravines, and majestic oak trees throughout. Tough par threes are a notable characteristic that tests golfers despite the modest yardage. The course operates from sunrise to sunset during spring, summer, and fall, with limited winter hours dependent on weather conditions. The regular golf season typically runs from late March through December, with tee times available from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The facility includes a clubhouse, pro shop, and snack bar. Winter cross-country skiing is available when snow coverage exceeds three inches. A new indoor golf simulator has recently been added for year-round recreation and reservation options.
