Durness Golf Club

Durness, Highland, Scotland

Durness Golf Club is a 9-hole links course located on Scotland's north coast near Durness, Sutherland, making it Britain's most north-westerly mainland golf course. Designed by local enthusiasts Lachie Ross, Ian Morrison, and Francis Keith, the course opened in 1988. With a second set of tees, it provides an 18-hole playing experience. The course is situated 57 miles north-west of Lairg on the North Coast 500 route, featuring dramatic Scottish highland landscape with stunning ocean views, turquoise waters, and sandy beaches. The terrain is challenging, notably including an opening hole with a steep alpine-style climb and a memorable closing par-3 that plays over ocean spray to a green perched atop black rocks. Durness has gained significant international recognition, ranked 12th in Golf Magazine USA's inaugural World's Top 50 Nine-Hole Courses (2020) and 65th in Golf World UK's Top 100 Courses 2021. The course hosts open competitions and is a finalist for the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards' Best 9-Hole Course. The remote location combined with exceptional scenic beauty and challenging links golf creates a distinctive golfing experience.
