The course was laid out by Tom Morris Snr of St Andrews, a four-time Open Champion, lending it significant historical prestige. As an England Golf Championship Venue, Wallasey has hosted numerous prestigious tournaments throughout its history. The club has qualified players for The Open Championship on four occasions, most notably in 1930 when Bobby Jones competed there as part of his Grand Slam year. A portrait signed by Jones is displayed in the clubhouse, commemorating this significant moment in golf history.
