Sleaford Golf Club

Lincolnshire, United Kingdom

Sleaford Golf Club is an 18-hole course situated in the Lincolnshire countryside, established in 1902 as a 9-hole layout. The club engaged Nottinghamshire professional Tom Williamson to advise on expanding the course to 18 holes, a project completed in the early twentieth century. The course was subsequently revised by the design partnership of Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas to create a more balanced layout, resulting in the near-equal halves that play today. From the back tees the course stretches to around 6,505 yards and plays to a par of 72. The course is frequently described as an inland links, owing to its sandy subsoil which provides excellent drainage and allows the course to remain playable throughout the year. The terrain is comparatively flat, interspersed with spinneys and areas of heathland vegetation, and a large portion of the site is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. A stream runs through the layout and comes into play as a water hazard on several holes, adding a strategic element to club selection and course management. Key features include the par-3 fifth on the front nine, which at 179 yards demands a precise carry between two large bunkers positioned close to the front right of the green, and the par-5 fourteenth, rated stroke index 2 and regarded as one of the more demanding holes on the back nine. The approach to the 17th involves a notably challenging drive from the medal tee, while the blind par-3 twelfth, played over trees, is considered one of the more distinctive holes on the course. The club also maintains a six-hole par-3 short course alongside practice facilities.
