Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, founded in 1892, features two courses set in a heathland nature reserve within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Purbeck Course is a traditional layout with spectacular views over Poole Harbour, Brownsea Island, and the Solent. The fifth hole is particularly renowned, with King Edward VIII describing its vista as one of the finest in his kingdom. The course is characterized by its natural heathland setting, decorated with gorse, heather, and rare flora and fauna. The Purbeck Course includes four par-3 holes, each facing a different compass point, creating distinct challenges based on wind direction and requiring strategic play over raw power. Today's Golfer ranked it 67th among X-Factor courses in the UK. The club is undergoing an ambitious conservation programme in partnership with the RSPB, National Trust, and Natural England, removing approximately 80 percent of gorse and non-native trees while reintroducing natural heathland landscapes to encourage rare wildlife. The current clubhouse, built in 1966, features distinctive giant fossils in its walls. Isle of Purbeck offers a memorable golfing experience combining challenging play with outstanding natural scenery and environmental conservation.
